Topic: APPROACHES FOR QUALITY NEEDS IN HIGHER EDUCATION : BANGLADESH PERSPECTIVE
Though a few universities of Bangladesh have earned reputation through their students in international arena but yet we have to wait for some time to get a respectable position in the ranking list of the top universities of the world as well as the region. In the best Asian universities ranking basing on overall and multi-disciplinary category, Asia-week ranked the university of Dhaka 37th in 1999 and 64th in 2000 out of 77 ranked universities. This is the only university in Bangladesh made position within the Asia's best universities. Academicians, education researchers and other stakeholders agree that the quality of higher education in most of the universities of Bangladesh is not up to the satisfactory level. It is due to the fact that no formal system for quality assurance, evaluation or monitoring of academic programs exists at the national level. University's' in house mechanism for self assessment, evaluation and monitoring could be an appropriate step to reach the ultimate objective. Though few institutions have set up built in mechanism in this aspect, but lack of information and minimal commonality on methodology and criteria is decelerating its introduction in most of the universities / institutions. Against this back drop, Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) is organizing this seminar on "Approaches for Quality needs in Higher Education: Bangladesh Perspective".
