Seminar on "Drug Abuse in Bangladesh and Its Way Out"
A seminar on "Drug Abuse in Bangladesh and Its Way Out" was organized by Drug Abuse & Illegal Trafficking Prevention Committee, Bangladesh University of Professionals on 21 January 2020 at Bijoy Auditorium of BUP. Vice Chancellor Major General Md Emdad-Ul-Bari, ndc, psc, te was present as the Chief Guest of the seminar. Mr. Md. Jamal Uddin Ahmed, Director General, Narcotics Control Department was the distinguished keynote speaker. Professor Dr M Abul Kashem Majumder, PhD, Pro-Vice Chancellor of BUP and Professor Dr Arup Ratan Choudhury, President, MANAS and Member, National Drug Control Advisory Board were present as special guests. Brigadier General Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, MPH, MPhil, Dean, Faculty of Medical Studies & Chairman, Drug Abuse & Illegal Trafficking Prevention Committee was the moderator of the seminar. Besides, high officials of BUP, faculty members and students were present in the seminar.
Seminar was started with the recitation from the holy Quran. Then the Moderator delivered the welcome speech. Later the Keynote Speaker discussed the extract of drug abuse in Bangladesh and about the actions that are being taken by the Government.
The speakers focused that, all guardians and parents, teachers and nearest relatives must keep constant vigilance, so that a youth cannot be derailed with the influence of bad companions. Preventive education, treatment and rehabilitation are the priority issues to make a country drug abuse free. The chief guest declared that, " BUP will show zero tolerance to any drug abuse cases. At the end, he also declared BUP as a drug free campus.
