Dr. Md. Abu Hanif is an Associate Professor of Law at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), Mirpur Cantonment, Dhaka. He has been serving in the field of legal academia for more than 13 years. He holds both LLB (Hons) and LLM degrees from the University of Rajshahi (RU). He completed his PhD in IT Law from IUB. He also earned a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Cyber Security from PNT Institute of Information Technology in collaboration with Washington University of Science and Technology (WUST), USA. He is a Certified Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) Governance and Ethics (C|RAGE) Professional and a Certified Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (C|HFI) with the International Council of E-Commerce Consultants (EC-Council).Before joining BUP, he served as a permanent faculty member in the Department of Law and Justice at Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) and at the University of Development Alternative (UODA). He has led several research projects funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC). He also served on the Self-Assessment Committee (SAC) of the Department of Law and the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at BUBT under the UGC Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP), funded by the World Bank.He is the author of the book Mass Media and Cyber Law of Bangladesh, which has been widely read and highly acclaimed by readers across the country since its first publication in 2014. He has authored and co-authored numerous scholarly articles and book chapters and has presented research papers at various international conferences. He also co-edited the book A Nation’s Aspirations: The July Uprising 2024.He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of three magazines published by the Department of Law, BUP: The Learned: Unleashing the Creativity of Legal Minds; Pen, Paper, and the Law: Students’ Reflections in Print; and Rights Engraved in Land. In addition, he has reviewed numerous research articles for university law journals.He has a keen interest in national and international cyber and telecommunications law, a field he has been engaged in since 2008. He has been teaching Cyber and Telecommunications Law since 2012. His research interests include Artificial Intelligence and Data Protection Law, Intellectual Property Law and Emerging Technologies, Cybersecurity and Digital Forensic Law, E-Commerce and FinTech Law, and Human Rights in the Digital Environment, among others.He is currently teaching AI and Data Protection Law, Business Law and Practice, Intellectual Property Law, Islamic Jurisprudence, and the Law of Succession. Throughout his academic career, he has also taught a wide range of other courses, including Customs, Maritime and Shipping Law; Tax Law; Media Law; Corporate Law; Administrative Law; Civil Law; Criminal Law; Land Law; Personal Law; International Law of Refugees, Migrants, and Stateless Persons; and International Environmental Law, among others.
