Biography
Dr.Shafi Mohammad Tareq completed B.Sc. (Hons) and M.Sc. from the Department ofChemistry, Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. He obtained M.S. from theDepartment of Earth and Environmental Sciences and was awarded D.Sc. from theGraduate School of Environmental Studies, Nagoya University, Japan. Dr. Tareqalso completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) from theUniversity of Nottingham and became a fellow of higher education academy, U.K.In his early career, he worked as a Japanese Society for Promotion of Science(JSPS) postdoctoral fellow at Nagoya University and the University of ShigaPrefecture. He also worked as a founding faculty member and chair of theDepartment of Environmental Sciences, Jahangirnagar University, and adjunctfaculty at the University of Shiga Prefecture, Japan. Dr. Tareq worked as avisiting researcher at Hokkaido University, Japan. He also worked as acommonwealth academic fellow at the University of Birmingham, U.K. Recently, heworked as an associate professor at the School of Bioscience, the University ofNottingham. He has published important papers on pollution and health riskassessment, paleovegetation and climate changes, emerging contaminants, andgreenhouse gas emissions. He got a very prestigious Bangladesh Academy ofScience and the World Academy of Science (BAS-TWAS) young scientist gold medal,2013 for his outstanding contribution to national science and technology. Dr.Tareq enlisted as a Fellow (FRSC) and Charted Environmentalist (CEnv) in theRoyal Chemical Society, U.K. He published more than sixty papers in refereedjournals (with total citations more than 1500 and h-index 24) and contributedseveral chapters in books published by international publishers like Elsevierand Springer. Dr. Tareq presented his research at many internationalconferences in Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America. His contribution tolignin molecular biogeochemistry was published in a book titled "LigninMolecular Biogeochemistry: Principles and Practices" from the USA.Currently, he is working as a professor of the Department of EnvironmentalSciences, Jahangirnagar University.

He completed a Postgraduate Certificate inHigher Education (PGCHE) at theUniversity of Nottingham and became a fellow of the Higher Education Academy,U.K. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow of the Japanese Society for the Promotionof Science (JSPS) and a Commonwealth Academic Fellow in the UK.Dr. Tareq worked as an associateprofessor at the School of Bioscience, the University of Nottingham. Healso worked as the chairman and founding faculty of the Department ofEnvironmental Sciences at Jahangirnagar University. Dr. Tareq was a visitingresearcher at the University of Shiga Prefecture and Hokkaido University,Japan. He is skilled in environmental monitoring and assessment, with a focuson emerging pollution-related health risks, hydrobiogeochemistry, and the fateand transport of dissolved organic matter and emerging chemicals, includingmicroplastics and antibiotics, in freshwater and the food chain. Dr. Tareq establishedthe Hydrobiogeochemistry and PollutionControl Laboratory at Jahangirnagar University. Dr Tareq published morethan 150 papers in refereed journals with a total citation of 5050 (h-index 37,i10-index 83) and received both the very prestigious Bangladesh Academy ofScience and the World Academy of Science (BAS-TWAS)Young Scientist Gold Medal Award, 2013 and BAS Gold Medal (senior group) 2024.Dr Tareq was enlisted as a Fellow (FRSC) and Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv)of the Royal Society of Chemistry, U.K. He is also a fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Science. He worked as an editor/editorialboard member, as well as a guest editor of several national/internationaljournals, including Frontier Earth Science, Sustainability, Frontiers in Water,Hygiene and Environmental Health Advances (Elsevier), and Discover Environmentand Discover Applied Science of Nature (Springer). His contribution to ligninmolecular biogeochemistry was published in a book titled "Lignin MolecularBiogeochemistry: Principles and Practices".
