Dr. M. Shahin Sarwar, Associate Professor, Department of Business Administration in Finance and Banking, Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), participated in the 35th Annual Meeting of the European Financial Management Association (EFMA), held from 24–27 June 2026 at the University of Agder, Kristiansand, Norway. The EFMA Annual Meeting is an international academic conference that brings together finance scholars and researchers from universities worldwide to present and discuss contemporary research across various areas of finance.
Dr. Sarwar presented the paper titled “Short-Horizon Insiders and Stock Trades in Personal Portfolios,” co-authored with Professor Taylan Mavruk, University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and Dr. Van Diem Nguyen, Lund University, Sweden. The study examines the personal portfolio choices and trading performance of corporate insiders with different investment horizons, contributing to the literature on insider trading, information asymmetry, and investor behaviour. Dr. Sarwar was the presenting author of the paper at the conference.
In addition to presenting his research, Dr. Sarwar served as a discussant at the conference, providing scholarly comments on the paper “The Price of Uniformity: Welfare Costs of One-Size-Fits-All Investment Plans under Income Risk,” authored by Paulo Rodrigues (Assistant Professor) and Professor Peter Schotman of Maastricht University. His participation in both roles provided opportunities for academic exchange, receiving expert feedback on ongoing research, and strengthening international research networks.
The conference featured Professor Lauren H. Cohen of Harvard Business School as the keynote speaker, with Professor Lars Oxelheim of the University of Agder and the Research Institute of Industrial Economics (IFN) serving as Program Chair. The program included research presentations, special sessions, panel discussions, and academic networking with scholars from leading universities and research institutions worldwide. Dr. Sarwar's participation and presentation at this international conference represent another step toward strengthening BUP's research visibility and engagement with the global academic community in finance.
