Team BUP Triumphs as Champion of Jessup Bangladesh 2024, Primed to Represent Nation in Washington DC

It is an ecstasy to share the news of historic victory of team BUP in the 8th Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds of the esteemed Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. Team BUP emerged as the champions, securing the much-desired Champions trophy with an impressive score of 3065 points. This remarkable achievement places Bangladesh University of Professionals at the forefront as the proud representative of Bangladesh on the global stage alongside Chittagong University, BRAC University and East West University as they achieved second, third and fourth places respectively. Where they will compete amidst an array of top contenders from around the world.

The Qualifying Rounds spanned from the 1st to the 3rd of February with 32 teams from various universities across the nation engaging in head-to-head competition during the national rounds hosted by American International University. The relentless hard work and unwavering commitment of team shone through, with Shushil Kabir earning the distinction of the second-best oralist of the country, Sihon Sultana ranking fourth, and Sohanur Rahman contributing as the researcher. The additional researchers Muhtasim Faiaz and Afsana Labonya, provided invaluable support. Furthermore, Team BUP achieved the 4th position in the Memorial Ranking, a testament to their comprehensive preparation.

This exceptional team was nurtured under the guidance of esteemed mentor, Asst. Professor Abu Bakar Siddique. Their journey doesn’t end here, as they are now set to represent Bangladesh in the international rounds held in Washington DC.

The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is one of the largest and oldest international law-based moot court events globally, attracting nearly 700 law schools from over 90 countries annually. Celebrating its 65th year, Jessup has evolved into the most prestigious competition in international law, providing a platform for legal enthusiasts to engage in simulated legal proceedings before distinguished judges. It fosters cultural exchange and understanding among aspiring legal professionals, making it a worldwide cornerstone in the legal community.
