Seminar
The Department of Development Studies and Public Administration jointly organized a seminar on 31st August 2025 on ‘Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and Anti-Drug Campaign’. The program featured insightful discussions by speakers Tabassum Khanam Ratri, Lecturer, Department of Development Studies, and Jannatin Nawar Siena, Lecturer, Department of Public Administration.
In her address, Tabassum Khanam Ratri explained how tobacco often serves as a “gateway” to drug use, gradually drawing young people into harmful habits. She underscored the associated health risks and stressed the importance of awareness, the ability to say “no,” and seeking support when necessary. Jannatin Nawar Siena focused on the issue of illicit drug trafficking, outlining the country’s laws, punishments, and policy measures. She also discussed the practical challenges of enforcement and emphasized the need for stronger implementation in parallel with awareness-building initiatives.
The seminar highlighted the urgency of addressing both the demand and supply sides of drug abuse and trafficking, while encouraging young people to make informed choices and contribute to building a drug-free society.
