“Academic Stress & Success: Facing Reality, Cultivating Resilience, and Inspiring Hope”
To promote student well-being and resilience, the Counselling and Placement Centre (CPC) at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) organized a series of lectures titled “Academic Stress & Success: Facing Reality, Cultivating Resilience, and Inspiring Hope” in late August and early September 2025. The lectures were held on 28 August for the Faculty of Business Studies (FBS) (1st half), 1 September for the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences (FASS), 2 September for the Faculty of Security & Strategic Studies (FSSS), and 3 September for the Faculty of Business Studies (FBS) (2nd half).
The sessions explored the causes and effects of academic stress, highlighting its mental and physical manifestations. Students reflected on their own stress responses and learned to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy coping strategies. They were also guided through self-assessments and introduced to evidence-based techniques such as the 4A method, cognitive restructuring, EFT tapping, and practical time management approaches tailored to student life. Each lecture concluded with an engaging Q&A, where participants openly shared their experiences and sought personalized guidance.
A total of 429 students attended the four sessions, with the largest representation from the FBS (45.9%), followed by the FSSS (37.8%), and the FASS (16.3%). Student feedback reflected a high level of satisfaction, with the lecture content rated at 4.12, facilitation at 3.90, and overall effectiveness at 3.91 on a 5-point scale. When asked about future lecture topics, students showed the greatest interest in managing depression (239 responses), followed by emotional intelligence (219), managing anger (187), and stress management (170).
Overall, the lecture series proved to be both effective and inspiring. The active participation of students underscored the importance of addressing academic stress while equipping them with practical tools to cultivate resilience and sustain hope in their academic journey.
